OATLANDS PRIMARY
TEACHERS: CAROLINE MEARES YEAR 1 and PALOMA CRESPO YEAR 2
TERM AUTUMN 2018
Our aim is to ensure children understand and learn to love the culture of Spain and to gain good
listening and speaking skills. We use lively role play, games, bingos, songs and activities to make
Spanish culture both enjoyable and memorable.
It is a pleasure to teach your children and I hope they enjoy as much as we do. If you have specific

TOPICS COVERED THIS TERM – CAROLINE’S GROUP
We have learnt how to say ‘Hola’ (Hello) and ‘Cómo estás?’ (how are you?). Answers to this are
‘(muy) bien’ (very) well, ‘mal’ I am not well and ‘regular’ I am so-so.
We have also learnt how to ask someone their name ‘Cómo te llamas?’ and to reply ‘Me llamo…’.
We have also learnt Cuántos años tienes ( how old are you?) and the answer tengo cinco/seis años (I
am five/six).
We have also learnt colours – rojo (red), amarillo (yellow), naranja (orange), blanco (white), negro
(black), azul (blue), verde (green) and rosa (pink).
The children are counting up to ten confidently. They have also learnt how to say thank you ‘gracias’
and goodbye – ‘adios’ at the end of each lesson.
We looked at el bocadillo (sandwich) and learnt el pan (bread), la mantequilla (butter), el jamón
(ham), el queso (cheese) and la lechuga (lettuce).
Before half term we started to look at drinks and learnt el agua (water), la leche (milk), el té (tea), el
café (coffee), la limonada (lemonade), zumo de naranja (orange juice), chocolate (chocolate).
Songs: Hola Amigos (hello friends), el bocadillo

FOR THE REST OF THE TERM WE WILL COVER – CAROLINE’S GROUP:
Next half term we will continue to revise and reinforce the vocab and songs already learnt.
We will continue counting up to 15. We will also continue with our food and drink topic and will
move on to breakfast – el desayuno. We will learn los cereales (cereals), el pan (bread), mermelada
(jam), churros con chocolate (churros and chocolate), leche (milk), azúcar (sugar).
We will also learn to say I like – me gusta(n) and I don’t like – no me gusta(n).
Then we will move on to members of the family – la familia. We will learn la mamá (Mum)/la madre
(mother), el papá (Dad)/el padre (father), la hermana (sister), el hermano (brother), el abuelo
(grandfather), la abuela (grandmother) and el bebé (baby).
PALOMA’S GROUP
We have been talking  about the insects we can see in our garden:
 MARIQUITA (ladybird), MOSCA (fly), HORMIGA (ant), ARAÑA (spider), and MARIPOSA (butterfly)
We have also been looking at food and learning me gusta(n) – I like – and no me gusta (n) – I don’t

like.
FOR THE REST OF THE TERM WE WILL COVER
Next half term we will continue to revise and reinforce the vocab and songs already learnt.
We will talk about Halloween with “brujas” (witch), “calabaza” (pumpkin), “fantasma” (ghost) and
“vampire” (vampire).
We will learn about the house where we live with the different rooms: salón(living room), dormitorio
(bedroom), cocina (kitchen) y baño (bathroom). We will also learn some furniture in our casa
(house):
lámpara (lamp), sofá, televisión, cama (bed), mesa (table) y silla (chair).
