TERM AUTUMN 2018


FIRST HALF TERM

TOPIC THEMES – Greetings, Numbers 1 – 10, Colours

VOCABULARY – Each lesson we greet each other: “Bonjour!” “Salut!” “Comment ça va?” (How are you?) “Ça va bien/ça va mal/ ça va comme-ci comme-ça” (I am good/I am not good/I am okay). We have also learnt “Comment t’appelles tu?” “Je m’appelle…” (What is your name? I am called…) “S’il tu plaît” and “Merci” (please and thank you). “Combien de garçons/de filles en classe?” (How many girls/boys in the class?) And we count - Un, Deux, Trois, Quatre, Cinq, Six, Sept, Huit, Neuf, Dix... We have discussed Paris and ‘La Tour Eiffel’ and ‘les euros’. We have also learnt the following colours – bleu (blue), blanc (white), rouge (red), jaune (yellow), vert (green).

FOR THE REST OF THE TERM WE WILL COVER

TOPIC THEMES – Numbers up to 20, Le Sandwich, Les Boissons (Drinks), Le Petit-Dejeuner (Breakfast)

VOCABULARY – We shall learn to count to twenty with additional numbers – Onze, Druze, Treize, Quatorze, Quinze, Seize, Dix-sept, Dix-huit, Dix-neuf, Vingt (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20) and the additional colours:- orange, violet, rose (orange, purple, pink). We shall also be learning about ‘le sandwich’ and ‘la baguette’, and what we like to put in them - le jambon (ham), le fromage (cheese), la tomate, la salade. We shall also learn some drinks using the phrase je bois (I drink…) Un coca, une limonade, un jus d’orange, un chocolat, un thé, un café, l’eau, le lait, and some snacks – le croissant, le sucre (sugar), le beurre (butter), les céréales, la confiture (jam), les bonbons (sweets), la glace (ice cream) and the phrase je mange (I eat…) and j’aime/je n’aime pas (I like/I do not like).

FIRST HALF TERM

TOPIC THEMES – Le Corps (body), Ma Personne

VOCABULARY – Each lesson we practice greetings and basic polite words, we practice numbers
and colours and key presentation questions/answers (cf beginners vocabulary).
We have learnt how to describe ourselves: Je m'appelle...(my name is...), j'ai sept ans (I am seven years old), Je suis un garçon/une fille (I am a boy/girl), j'ai les cheveux longs/mi-longs/courts (I have long hair, mid length or short hair), j'ai les yeux bleus, verts, noirs ou marron (I have blue/green/black or brown eyes) also body parts: la tête, les yeux, le nez, la bouche, les oreilles (head, eyes, nose, mouth, ears) les bras, les mains, les jambes, les pieds (arms, hands, legs, feet) le menton, le pouce, les genoux, les épaules (chin, thumb, knees, shoulders).

TOPIC THEMES – La Famille (Family), Noël (Christmas)

VOCABULARY – We'll study the family members le Papa (daddy), la Maman (mummy), le frère(brother), la sœur(sister), le bébé. More advanced children will describe their family: “Dans ma famille, il y a 5 personnes” (In my family, there are 5 persons) and le fils(son), la fille (daughter), le père(father), la mère(mother), le grand-père (grand-father), la grand-mère (grand-mother). J’ai un petit frère, j’ai une grande sœur (I have a little brother, a big sister). Je suis fils unique/fille unique (I am an only child). Les cadeaux (presents), la cheminée (fireplace), le sapin de Noël (Christmas tree), les chaussons/chaussures(slippers/shoes), les boules (baubles), la guirlande (garland), l’étoile (star), la bûche (log).

FESTIVALS: La Toussaint/halloween (la fête des morts/la petite citrouille jaune, la grande
citrouille orange) We combine adjectives that are placed before the noun and colors that go after
+ Noël
