FIRST HALF TERM
TOPIC THEMES – Les Fruits et Les Légumes (fruits and vegetables), Revision of Numbers 1 – 20
VOCABULARY – This term we have been learning the names of the following fruits: ‘la banane’
(banana), ‘l’orange’ (orange), ‘la poire’ (pear), ‘la pomme’ (apple), ‘du raisin’ (grapes), ‘la fraise’
(strawberry), ‘l’ananas’ (pineapple), ‘la cerise’, ‘l’abricot’ (apricot), ‘le citron’ (lemon). We have also
been learning the following vegetables: ‘la carotte’ (carrot), ‘le chou’ (cabbage), ‘la tomate’ (tomato),
‘le radis’ (radish), ‘le champignon’ (mushroom), ‘des petits pois’ (peas), ‘la pomme de terre’ (potato),
‘le poireau’ (leek), ‘du maïs’ (corn), ‘l’oignon’ (onion), ‘la courgette’ (courgette), ‘des brocolis’
(broccoli). During each session we also practise the colours and this term we have been revising
numbers 1 – 20.

FOR THE REST OF THE TERM WE WILL COVER
TOPIC THEMES – Les Animaux (animals), Numbers 20 - 30
VOCABULARY – For the rest of the term we will be learning the following animals: ‘le chien’ (dog), ‘le
chat’ (cat), ‘le lapin’, (rabbit), ‘le poisson rouge’ (goldfish), ‘l’hamster’ (hamster), ‘la souris’ (mouse),
‘le cheval’ (horse), ‘la vache’ (cow), ‘le mouton’ (sheep), ‘le cochon’ (pig), ‘le canard’ (duck), ‘la poule’
(hen), ‘le coq’ (cockerel), l'âne (donkey), ‘le singe’ (monkey), ‘le crocodile’ (crocodile), ‘le lion’ (lion),
‘la girafe’ (giraffe), ‘le serpent’ (snake), ‘le tigre’ (tiger), ‘le perroquet’ (parrot), ‘le zèbre’ (zebra), ‘le
kangourou’ (kangaroo). We shall also be practising numbers 20 – 30.

Our aim is to ensure children understand and learn to love the culture of France and to gain
good listening and speaking skills. We use lively role play, games, bingos, songs and
activities to make French culture both enjoyable and memorable.

Vocabulary
LES ANIMAUX de la ferme (Farm animals): la poule (hen), le lapin(rabbit), l'oie (goose), le canard
(duck), le cochon (pig), le mouton(sheep), le cheval (horse),
Les animaux domestiques (pets): le poisson(fish), le chien(dog), le chat(cat) for more advanced
children :le papillon(butterfly), le taureau(bull), le tigre, la girafe, le zèbre, le crocodile and describing
them, ex:”le lapin a 2 grandes oreilles” (rabbits have got 2 big ears!) “le crocodile a une grande
bouche” (crocodiles have a big mouth)
LES GOUTS (tastes) J'aime les chiens, Je n'aime pas les chats, J'adore les papillons, Je déteste les
oies! (I like dogs, I don't like cats, I love butterflies, I detest gooses)
WE played loto (bingo), 'Petit poisson', 'le crocodile', et bien sur 'Canard,canard OIE!'(=Duck,duck
Goose)

LES VACANCES (holidays): Je vais à la mer, à la montagne, à la campagne, à la ferme, en ville, je reste
à la maison, (I’m going to the sea side, the mountains, the countryside, the farm, the city or stay at
home)/ le passeport, le sac, la valise (suitcase) /la tente - J' adore les vacances à la campagne
J'aime les vacances à la maison. Je préfère les vacances à la mer (I love holidays at the countryside/I
like holidays at home, I prefer holidays at the seaside)
We also look at : Ou habites-tu(where do you live?) J'habite à la campagne ( I live in the country side)
LES VETEMENTS d'ETE: le maillot de bain (swimming costume), le short, le maillot(T-shirt), le
chapeau (sun hat), la casquette(cap), les sandales (sandals), les tongues (flip-flop), les lunettes de
soleil ou lunettes de natation (sun glasses or goggles)
CELEBRATIONS: 14 th July Bastille day /la guillotine, Le Tour de France /le maillot jaune
SONGS: Dans ma basse-court il y a, Les vacances, La Tour Eiffel, Le cycliste et les couleurs
